I have to give credit to Ghostly Thistle for putting out The McIlwraith Statements, as effectively a one-person production that manages to be compelling, endearing and even genuinely quite spooky a few times. That has however to be tempered by the limitations of it, and the quite apparently "first show" issues it has. It's not a bad show by any means, but the beginning sets up a premise, that of a mystery, as well as a backstory which don't quite come together in the way it feels was set up at the start. This is especially clear in the second season which feels quite disconnected and ends rather suddenly, in a finale that is both unexpectedly soon and feels flimsier than the previous shows. It's not a bad ending, but it's a disappointment after such premise.I'm still planning to check out the company's other podcasts, and I wouldn't dissuade anyone from listening to this fledgling offering either.
