What is sin? Little is mentioned in Christian circles concerning the issue of sin and our sin condition. I believe leaders have tried to make members feel good about themselves without digging into the real issue of sin. No one wants to admit their faults. That takes courage. It also takes courage on the part of the listener. Are you ready to hear that your pastor or bible teacher has sinned? We live in cancel culture and many leaders who have confessed, either voluntarily or due to being caught, have been hiding or cast out of their home churches for their sinful behavior. Are we hypocrites? Absolutely. The very people making the choice to cast out leaders are themselves struggling with much but do not share it openly. We only get to see what has been buffed and cleaned up on the outside. Each of us struggles with sin and it's time to admit it. Being open and honest about our struggles with sin is long overdue for us leaders. We need to be the Church and "confess our sins to one another" and "pray for each other." (James 5:16) It takes courage and we need to be diligent in assessing and examining our hearts before our communities of faith. No longer should people follow leaders who profess sinlessness and self-righteousness. Being "in Christ" does not mean we are Christ. We strive to imitate our Savior but fall short every time. (Romans 3:23) May we never believe that we can stop "working out our salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12)Today's episode tackles the issue of sin and our sin nature. How is it that a perfect, sinless God continues to pursue sinful, broken people? Why do we choose sin over God in an uncontrollable way? Let's chat about that. *As always, send your feedback on today's episode by commenting on the podcast page or sending an email to simplyirispodcast@gmail.com.
