QUT Law Conversations returns with Pete Black talking with Professor Nic Suzor about his time at QUT, beginning as an undergraduate Law/IT student to now being a Professor of Law and one of only 20 members from all over the world who make up Facebook's Oversight Board.
Peter is interviewing QUT staff from the Faculty of Law about how they are surviving through COVID-19. In the first episode of the second series, Pete talks to Nic Suzor, a professor in School of Law, a Chief Investigator of QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre and a Chief Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. Nic is also a member of the Oversight Board, an independent organisation that hears appeals and makes binding decisions about what content Facebook and Instagram should allow or remove, based on international human rights norms.
Nic talks about how QUT has changed since he first studied here as an undergraduate student (at 4:30), his home office set up (at 9:28) and he offers some advice for everyone struggling at the moment (at 16:34). Finally, Nic talks about the Facebook Oversight Board (at 19:56).
