His first book, "Answering the Call: Popular Islamic Activism in Sadat's Egypt," was published in 2014. He edited the book "Football in the Middle East: State, Society, and the Beautiful Game," which was published in 2022.Al-Arian received his B.A. in Political Science from Duke University, his M.A. in Sociology of religion from the London School of Economics, and his Ph.D. in History from Georgetown University.

She co-hosted the WNYC/ProPublica podcast "Trump, Inc." She has also reported for the New York Observer.Bernstein's her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, ProPublica, The Guardian, New York Magazine, The Nation, and the New York Daily News. Her first book, "American Oligarchs: The Kushners, the Trumps, and the Marriage of Money and Power," was published in 2020.
