1:23

been 538 days since Aaron Rodgers became a Jet. And

1:29

finally, he has his favorite receiver.

1:31

But can Devontae Adams be the

1:33

missing piece in New York? They

1:36

certainly ponyed up like he will be.

1:38

We'll tell you how and why this

1:40

deal got done now. We'll

1:42

also tell you why Russell Wilson likely

1:44

gets his first Steelers start against

1:46

Rodgers, Adams and the Jets on

1:49

Sunday night. We'll hear from Mike

1:51

Tomlin on that matter as well.

1:53

Well, we see Jonathan Taylor back

1:55

out there after missing a couple

1:57

of weeks because of his high

1:59

ankle spray. What better source of...

2:01

on that than Jonathan Taylor himself,

2:03

the workhorse in Indianapolis joins us

2:06

live. Welcome inside with

2:08

the insiders presented by Progressive

2:10

Insurance alongside Judy Batista and

2:12

Ian Rappaport who are live

2:14

at the NFL meeting in

2:16

Atlanta today. There was a

2:18

little bit of news there,

2:20

maybe the greatest quarterback of

2:22

all time is back. Just

2:24

not playing quarterback anymore. We will get to

2:26

that. But I would also tell you, I

2:29

have not left this seat in, let's

2:31

call it 12 hours from

2:34

good morning football straight through this show

2:36

because we have had a day and

2:39

it all started out this morning

2:41

when yes, after weeks

2:43

of negotiation over a year

2:45

of speculation, Devontae Adams finally

2:47

and officially became a New

2:50

York Jet, the Jets sending

2:52

the Raiders a conditional third

2:54

round pick in the 2025

2:57

draft. It can potentially become a

3:00

second round pick based on personal

3:02

and team performance. They also are

3:04

taking on the entire salary for

3:06

Devontae Adams, a small price to

3:08

pay if you're Woody Johnson. What

3:11

do you think? I think he adds

3:14

to the running game. He adds to

3:16

the he really makes everything. He opens

3:18

up everything, you know, particularly having that

3:21

relationship with the quarterback. That's very important.

3:24

You could see last night, you know,

3:26

you could watch the quarterback. It

3:29

takes a while for quarterback to get into

3:31

that and you could see Garrett is finally,

3:33

finally getting that and he played

3:36

a good game much better than

3:38

the week before and next week will be better. Got

3:40

home and Ted

3:42

called me and texted me and I saw

3:45

I finally called him back and said,

3:47

so about 1230 to 45 last night. I

3:53

heard the news. OK, so as soon as you hear the

3:55

news, what's that? What's that? What's that?

3:58

What's that? Well,

4:00

well, well. Here

4:03

he is. Hey,

4:05

good to see you, Ty. Good to see you, man.

4:07

Congrats. What's up, fellas? Hey, thank

4:09

you, man. I appreciate it. No problem. Appreciate that. How

4:12

was the flight over there? Did you fly over last

4:14

night and Aaron wasn't returning any of your text messages?

4:16

What's that all about? You think about saying, give

4:18

me the hell out of here any time of that?

4:21

Yeah, he was having second thoughts. Yeah,

4:24

he's been knowing that both

4:26

when it comes to pulling the trigger with me. But

4:29

hopefully we can put that behind us now. Yeah,

4:32

we're back, man. We're back. Everything

4:34

about the Jets in the Aaron Rodgers

4:36

era has felt like a reality show.

4:39

Part of it was literally a reality

4:41

show, Ian, when Hard Knocks was there

4:43

last year. This was like the character

4:45

that's kind of coming and going the

4:47

entire time. You're never quite sure if

4:50

they're going to become a central part

4:52

of the story for sure. You watch

4:54

Devontae Adams walk on the screen there

4:56

on the Pat McAfee show. He's a

4:58

31-year-old receiver who's coming off a hamstring

5:01

injury. These are not normally the types

5:03

of trades we see for significant compensation.

5:05

Yet here we are, and you just

5:07

have to think based on what Woody's

5:09

saying, what Aaron's saying, what Devontae is

5:12

saying. The expectations cannot possibly be

5:14

higher for this deal now that it's finally

5:16

done. The expectations have always

5:18

been high for the Jets ever since they

5:20

acquired Aaron Rodgers. He's a great fanfare a

5:22

couple of years ago. You acquire an all-pro

5:25

like Devontae Adams, who you're right. We have

5:27

been talking about for more than a year

5:29

from speculation to Aaron Rodgers

5:31

himself saying in a golf tournament casually,

5:34

yeah, I'd like to play with him

5:36

again. This has been all we have

5:38

discussed, and now it is actually happening. And yeah,

5:40

I would say the expectations have ramped up a

5:42

bit. Forget about the fact that they are 2

5:44

and 4. It is all

5:46

in as Woody Johnson, the owner, told

5:49

us a couple hours ago here in

5:51

Atlanta. Here, Judy, is how this deal

5:53

broke down. Obviously, we've known Devontae Adams

5:55

told the Raiders he preferred to be

5:57

traded. It seemed like a good deal.

6:00

like last week could be the time

6:02

then the Jets fired Robert solid. Everyone

6:04

kind of took a deep breath. Things

6:06

really kicked into gear. My understanding about

6:08

Friday, that's when the Raiders and Jets

6:10

kind of became clear. All right. This

6:12

compensation a third that could become a

6:14

two. This may actually work for both

6:16

sides. I know the Jets had

6:18

some conversations with the bond to Adams agents

6:21

over the course of the weekend. Just say,

6:23

all right, what's going to happen with the

6:25

contract? They ended up restructuring that finalized last

6:27

night. He flew on a red eye last

6:30

night arrived today, was in

6:32

the building, took his physical, passes

6:34

physical. And now unbelievably, Devontae Adams

6:36

is on the jets. Right.

6:39

And you remember only a few days ago,

6:41

we were wondering if they lost the game

6:43

last night. Would that sort of be the

6:45

end of the Devontae Adams pursuit because it's

6:47

the season sort of over. And the answer

6:49

is no, Woody Johnson does not believe that

6:51

the season is over. As a matter of

6:54

fact, he's kind of optimistic about the season.

6:56

I asked him, do you

6:58

still think the season is salvageable? And he

7:00

said salvageable. I think we're

7:02

going to kick. And he said, we could

7:04

fill in the word. So he actually feels

7:06

really good. He actually felt pretty good about

7:08

the game last night, despite the loss. He

7:10

wasn't happy about the penalties for sure.

7:13

Or the kicker, which he said repeatedly.

7:16

But he did say he liked the way

7:18

the offense was moving the ball. Obviously they

7:20

need to be more productive. And he said,

7:22

those things are going to get better in

7:24

the next few weeks. He thinks they're just

7:26

going to get better and better and better.

7:28

He's obviously really excited about the Devontae Adams

7:30

acquisition. But there is not a feeling that

7:32

the season is on the brink, at least

7:34

if you're listening to Woody Johnson, he's full

7:36

steam ahead with this season and the New

7:38

York Jets. That was

7:40

not the only wide receiver trade

7:42

we got today. Just a few

7:44

hours after the Devontae Adams trade

7:46

was first reported by that guy,

7:48

Rappaport, the Buffalo Bills acquired Amari

7:50

Cooper. It's a little bit of

7:52

a complicated deal in terms of

7:55

compensation, but basically the bill is

7:57

sending a third round pick to

7:59

Cleveland. swap late round picks

8:01

one in twenty five one in twenty

8:03

twenty six. This is a

8:05

fascinating deal for a number of different

8:08

reasons as you get your first look

8:10

right there. Adam Murray Cooper in a

8:12

bills uniform. A guy who's now been

8:14

traded. Let's remember three times from the

8:16

then Oakland Raiders to the Cowboys, the

8:19

Cowboys to the Browns. Now the Browns

8:21

to the bills. The bills were also

8:23

in in on Devontae Adams as were

8:25

teams like the Steelers and

8:28

the Saints. One of the hold ups with

8:30

Buffalo besides the fact that they don't employ

8:32

one of his best friends who's also the

8:34

quarterback of the team was the bills couldn't

8:36

afford to take on all that money. So

8:38

where the Jets took on eleven point six

8:40

million dollars for Devontae Adams the

8:43

Browns had paid almost all the money

8:45

they owe to Murray Cooper and a

8:47

signing bonus for cap purposes. The bills

8:49

now get him for eight hundred six

8:52

thousand dollars eight hundred six thousand six

8:54

hundred sixty seven dollars here. A potential

8:56

bargain if he's able to integrate into

8:58

what should be a pretty high powered

9:00

bills office. This trade got done

9:03

today. You're right. As soon as it became

9:05

clear that the bills were not getting Devontae

9:07

Adams the pivot happened pretty quickly. In fact

9:09

my understanding is the conversations really started sounded

9:11

like late last night kicked into gear this

9:13

morning and then it was done. It's a

9:16

complicated deal as far as compensation goes. A

9:18

third round pick is the biggest piece of

9:20

this and what is essentially a pick swap.

9:22

So that goes from the bills to the

9:24

Browns. But the reality is Tom this didn't

9:26

start today. This started when the Cleveland Browns

9:29

were trying to trade for Brandon Iuke and

9:31

pay him 30 million dollars per year.

9:33

Murray Cooper got wind of this as did

9:35

we all took it some sort of way

9:37

obviously went on the field and played for

9:39

the Browns and everything was fine when he

9:41

was in the building but it's not something

9:43

you really forget as a player. And look

9:45

his contract is what it is. It's

9:48

pretty clear he was probably not going to

9:50

sign back next year. They restructured his contract

9:52

one to make it easier for them capitalized

9:54

to if they had to trade him he

9:57

was extremely tradable. This was a pretty good

9:59

commodity. The bill. the Browns clearly took a

10:01

look at zone and said, he's not going to

10:03

be part of our team next year. Let's get

10:05

what we can now. And I think if you're

10:07

the bills, you get a really solid veteran receiver

10:09

for Josh Allen. One more

10:12

trade that also came down this one

10:14

in the past hour, the Minnesota Vikings.

10:16

And no, this is not a repeat

10:18

from last year. They traded for cam

10:20

makers again. Last year they acquired him

10:22

from the Rams. This time around, they

10:24

acquire him from the Houston Texans. It

10:27

is a late round pick swap in

10:29

2026 for anybody who

10:31

has Aaron Jones and fantasy football. It

10:33

was emphasized to me. This is not

10:35

about any type of long-term health concerns

10:37

with Aaron Jones. In fact, there's a

10:39

possibility he plays this week against the

10:41

Lions. This is just another running

10:43

back who knows that system. Well,

10:46

going back to his days with

10:48

the LA Rams when Kevin O'Connell

10:50

was there. We also had significant

10:52

news today out of Pittsburgh, where

10:54

coach Mike Tomlin confirmed the Russell

10:56

Wilson will be in Tomlin's words

10:58

in consideration this week to

11:01

start. Now, here's what I

11:03

am told. They're going to give Russell

11:05

Wilson first team reps this week. And

11:07

at this point, he is considered to

11:09

be in line to be the starting

11:11

quarterback this week and make his debut

11:14

against the Jets, even though they are

11:16

four and two with Justin Fields. Here's

11:18

how Mike Tomlin summed up the situation

11:21

today. Over

11:23

the course of the week, I got comfortable with

11:25

his ability to display his health. Now

11:28

it's about, you know, knocking the rust off. He did

11:30

some of that last week. He

11:32

is in consideration this week. We'll

11:34

see where that leads us, man. Both

11:37

guys at the quarterback position are scheduled to

11:39

work tomorrow and we'll just walk it day by day,

11:41

all geared toward putting

11:43

ourselves in best position

11:46

to win the football game. Let's talk about the

11:48

Jets a little bit. Obviously, things are changing by

11:50

the minute. I was getting

11:53

ready for Devontae last week. I'm getting

11:55

ready for Devontae this week. Definitely

11:57

a unique set of circumstances right there for Mike.

12:00

Tomlin and the Steelers as they get

12:02

ready for this game. Judy Tomlin also

12:04

said the Russell Wilson proved last week

12:06

he is healthy. And that was the

12:08

biggest piece in all of this, even

12:10

though realistically, the calf was probably fully

12:12

healed a few weeks ago. The only

12:14

announcement Mike Tomlin has ever made about

12:16

quarterback is Russell Wilson is our starter.

12:18

That was back in August before he

12:20

aggravated the calf. Now at this point,

12:23

even though Justin Fields is taking care

12:25

of the football, it certainly sounds like

12:27

it's headed in the direction of us

12:29

finally seeing Russell Wilson on the field

12:31

in the Steelers uniform. Well,

12:33

let's be honest, we've been talking about this since training

12:35

camp and those of us who

12:37

cycled through Latrobe, Pennsylvania all got the feeling

12:40

that Mike Tomlin wanted to see Russell Wilson

12:42

as the starting quarterback at some point. Like

12:44

he was ready to start the season with

12:46

Russell Wilson until the injury happened and it

12:49

was just a question of when

12:51

would that moment be? When would there be an

12:53

opening? Now you say, well, they're foreign too. How

12:55

could this possibly be the moment that she would

12:57

change quarterbacks? But don't forget, they

13:00

are not scoring that many points. They

13:02

are definitely not passing for that many

13:04

yards. And last week, they won the

13:07

game and he did score, he being

13:09

Justin Fields did score with his legs.

13:12

And he's not making mistakes, but

13:15

he's also not generating big plays.

13:18

So I think the question is,

13:20

is this the opening? Is this the right

13:22

moment? He was more erratic. He

13:24

was less accurate last week. Certainly

13:27

this is a fine line that Mike Tomlin is

13:29

walking and I am sure that there are people

13:31

even in the building who are like, are

13:34

you sure about this because you're foreign too? It's

13:37

a very unusual move to make. But again, I

13:40

have always gotten the sense that Mike Tomlin wants

13:42

to see Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback at

13:44

some point. And this is the moment it appears

13:46

that it's going to happen. One great thing about

13:48

having an excellent defense is you do have some

13:51

margin for error, right? Like you have the opportunity

13:53

to say, we're going to go with a different

13:55

quarterback and we think it's going to be better.

13:58

If it isn't, that's okay. And I would.

14:00

be surprised at all if both quarterbacks end

14:02

up playing in this game and look at

14:04

some point might we don't have to name

14:06

a starter but you figure at some point

14:08

Mike Tomlin will say here's our starting quarterback

14:11

but he doesn't necessarily need to

14:13

and I'm not sure how much it would

14:15

really matter I mean if you have neither

14:18

of these guys has really elevated himself from

14:20

the other if it's weak whatever it is

14:22

seven is a week seven yeah it's week

14:24

seven and we still don't have a confirmed

14:26

starting quarterback then it's okay to say maybe

14:29

they both play now you're right I would

14:31

I would consider uh playing

14:33

Russell Wilson to be at least

14:35

a curiosity from Mike Tomlin and

14:37

yes Justin Fields has been good

14:39

but as he mentioned is it

14:41

championship level yet maybe not and

14:43

you know look we'll see if

14:46

Russell Wilson gets it there but

14:48

we will see as Mike Tomlin

14:50

said tons of news around the

14:52

NFL including where you guys are

14:54

in Buckhead Atlanta right now where

14:56

finally Tom Brady is officially a

14:58

member of NFL ownership he was

15:00

approved today by NFL owners unanimous

15:02

vote as a limited partner the

15:04

Raiders now owns five percent of

15:06

the team ten percent if you

15:08

include the portion owned by his

15:10

partner that also means based upon

15:13

recently revised NFL rules his playing

15:15

career is officially over Brady within

15:17

the past couple of minutes also

15:19

released a statement thanking among other

15:21

people Mark Davis commissioner Goodell his

15:23

partners Jim Gray got a mention

15:25

in here in a statement that

15:27

was signed by someone who apparently

15:29

their initials are BP is that

15:31

really his signature I feel

15:33

like after all the stuff he signed we could we

15:35

could do slightly better than that anyway

15:38

Mark Davis said he might be able to

15:40

help him pick the next quarterback can't wait

15:42

to see him on the pro day circuit

15:44

or at the combine I'm sure we'll get

15:46

that maybe you'll find a guy like this

15:48

Jamar Chase let's talk Bengals and a whole

15:51

lot more Jeffrey Chadea joining us to talk

15:53

about his bandwagon's next on the insiders back

15:56

in week one the Philadelphia Eagles kicked off

15:58

their season in historic fashion becoming the first

16:00

team to win an NFL game in South

16:02

America. Today, we go behind the scenes to

16:04

find out what it took for the Eagles

16:07

to plan and execute the nearly 5,000 mile

16:09

journey to

16:11

Sao Paulo, Brazil in this episode of

16:13

Gaining Greatness presented by Sleep Number. Over

16:16

30,000 pounds of equipment, 185

16:18

players, coaches and team personnel, almost 10,000 miles of travel.

16:27

What does it take to get an NFL team to

16:29

South America for a regular season game? A

16:31

lot of coordination between departments, between

16:34

the club and the NFL. Well,

16:37

that and a lot more. In

16:40

2024, the Philadelphia Eagles opened their season

16:42

with a matchup against the Green Bay

16:45

Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And it

16:47

is cut to a touchdown. Perfect pass.

16:50

The undertaking was as enormous

16:52

as it was detailed, spanning

16:54

months of planning, meticulous preparation

16:56

and perfect execution. I

16:58

know they don't see what happens on the

17:00

back end, but they get to see the

17:03

energy, the intensity, the passion at which our

17:05

players play. Four-three, touchdown, Eagles! That's

17:07

just fun to watch. We're

17:09

bringing the game that we love to a whole

17:11

new country. Side to Brazil. Hey, man.

17:13

We're going to point the show, y'all. Fly

17:16

high like an eagle, baby. This is

17:18

how the Philadelphia Eagles orchestrated one

17:20

of the most ambitious operations in

17:22

NFL history to take the field

17:24

for the first ever game in

17:26

South America. Time

17:32

now for Tuesday Takeaways presented

17:35

by Chipotle. Tom Pelocero

17:37

back here on The Insiders joined now

17:39

by my buddy Jeffrey Chadea. As

17:41

I always say in this segment, Jeff,

17:43

all I can think about is delicious,

17:46

delicious burritos right now. But you're thinking

17:48

about bandwagons. Who are you on? Let's

17:50

start in the NFC right now. Well,

17:52

I'll start with the Eagles. The team,

17:54

everybody loves to cycle analyze. I

17:56

get Nick Sirianni. It can be unpredictable.

18:00

I love the fact that AJ Brown is

18:02

back. Devontae Smith is back. You saw the

18:04

impact that had on the way Jaylen Hurts

18:06

played, didn't turn the ball over for the

18:08

first time in what seems like forever. I

18:10

think this team is, people talk about Washington,

18:12

but this team has more talent than the

18:14

commanders and they're a better team than Dallas.

18:17

You have a defensive still suspect, but I

18:19

think they will get that figured out at

18:21

some point with Vic Fangio. Second

18:23

team in the NFC I like a lot

18:25

is the Green Bay Packers. You go to

18:27

Jordan Love, yeah, he wasn't playing well when

18:29

he was trying to get back from that

18:31

knee injury, but he found his stride last

18:34

week. You saw the way he played against

18:36

the Cardinals, put up big numbers, love the

18:38

weapons around him, but I also love the

18:40

way this defense has been playing. They wanted

18:42

to be more opportunistic. They lead the NFL

18:44

in takeaways right now. Xavier McKinney looks like

18:46

an all-pro safety. And finally, a team in

18:48

that same division, Chicago Bears. I know that

18:51

Kayla Williams got off to a short, to

18:53

a tough start, but he's been playing really

18:55

well seeing teams like the Panthers and the

18:57

Jaguars, yes. But the Bears have figured out,

18:59

let's run the football better. Let's play with

19:01

that defense. It hasn't allowed more than 20

19:03

points only one time this

19:06

season. Look, NFC North is tough. It's

19:08

a bloodbath with Detroit and Minnesota, but

19:10

both these teams should be in the

19:12

playoff hunt come January. Jeffrey,

19:15

give me some more toppings. I mean, some more teams

19:17

that you are on the bandwagon. Let's this time go

19:19

over to the AFC side. Well,

19:21

I'll start with the Cincinnati Bengals. And last

19:24

season, I made a big prediction late about

19:26

the Buffalo Bills making the playoffs. I'll make

19:28

the same prediction about the Cincinnati Bengals. They're

19:30

two and four, but I could see them

19:32

being five and five by week 10 with

19:34

a week schedule. They've got the Browns, they've

19:36

got the Eagles, they've got the Raiders coming

19:38

up so they can get some wins going.

19:40

But offense is great. And the defense looked

19:42

a lot better with Sheldon Reagan's back on

19:44

that defensive line. B.J. Hill is healthy. I

19:46

think Lou Anna-Ruma was gonna be able to

19:49

scheme some things up. And then Chargers. Not

19:51

a lot of expectations about the Chargers, but they're

19:54

three and two right now. And their defense under

19:56

Jesse Mentor has been lights out. Jim Harbaugh has

19:58

got this team. believing in the identity of running

20:00

the football. Justin Herbert is throwing the football more,

20:02

did so against the Denver Broncos, you saw it

20:05

here. And so I like Jim Harbaugh's ability to

20:07

make things happen. And again, you look at their

20:09

schedule down the stretch here, they got the Cardinals,

20:11

the Saints, the Browns, the Titans coming up in

20:14

the next month. They could really get on a

20:16

nice run here and make a playoff push themselves.

20:19

Hot takes as always from Jeffrey

20:21

Chedia, almost as hot as the

20:23

salsa verde that you can get

20:25

on your burrito right now at

20:28

Chipotle. Jeffrey, thank you very much.

20:30

More from jeffreyedeville.com/chedia. Coming up after

20:32

this, a guy who's seen hotter

20:34

teams in his day, Jerry

20:36

Jones, he's got some thoughts, not

20:38

just on his team, but

20:41

on the way people are talking about his

20:43

team. We'll explain next on the Insiders. Banking

21:17

son Max is big time into Greek and Roman

21:19

anthology. I checked with him. This

21:21

is Super Bowl 62. That's what

21:23

the Roman numerals are. 62,

21:25

Judy, that's when the Super Bowl is heading

21:28

back right here to Atlanta, 2028. It

21:32

was a good one last time. I had a blast. Ate

21:34

some great restaurants, Fox Brothers Barbecue, where I'm going

21:36

tonight. Atlanta, back in the

21:39

Super Bowl rotation, second time in a

21:41

decade. So of course, we

21:43

are here at the Fall League meeting. Always

21:45

a fun one, always eventful. We've been talking

21:47

about the different news that came out of

21:49

this, Tom Brady being part owner of the

21:51

Raiders for one. Obviously, there was

21:54

a lot more, several briefings from league officials.

21:56

For you, what was your

21:58

biggest takeaway? not Tom Brady related

22:01

from these meetings. Well, other than

22:03

all the trades that happened and the owners

22:05

talking about them, I think on league news,

22:07

they're pretty happy with where the dynamic kickoff

22:09

is right now, which you may be surprised

22:11

because it hasn't generated a ton of kickoff

22:13

returns, about 32% of kickoffs are being returned.

22:16

But that's way up from where they were

22:18

at this point last year, they were only

22:20

at 17% returns last year. So

22:23

it's a huge boost. They think it's something

22:25

to build on. There's no question they're gonna

22:27

tweak it. Roger Goodell said as much in

22:29

his briefing. They're definitely gonna look at it

22:31

after the year, but they think this is

22:33

a good starting point. The tweak that they

22:35

would look at is having a touch back

22:37

go then to the 35 yard line, which

22:40

obviously- To de-incentivize. Right,

22:44

so that of course would be a

22:46

huge advantage for the team that takes

22:48

possession to start that. And they think

22:50

that that would incentivize having more returns.

22:53

They are balancing against, would

22:55

that create more injuries? The really good news

22:57

is there's been only one concussion suffered on

22:59

kickoffs through week six. So that is great

23:02

news. Serious lack of injuries on the kickoff

23:04

place specifically. That was certainly noteworthy as were

23:06

the very small but growing number of players

23:08

wearing the Guardian caps. I thought that we

23:11

saw a tail a wrap for one, the

23:13

Buffalo Bills wear one last night. So a

23:15

lot of good health and safety news. There

23:19

was some not great things today around

23:22

the Dallas Cowboys. I think it's fair to say,

23:24

not here. Now

23:26

Jerry Jones did walk in here one minute before the

23:29

meeting started and talk about how, hey guys, I can't

23:31

really talk, I gotta go. He knew there

23:33

was a lot to talk about. He

23:35

talked about a lot of it on 105.3, the fan. Some

23:38

of it was a little chippy. I just,

23:40

it was, anyway, take a listen. We'll come

23:42

right back. There

23:45

was a lot of criticism that you guys

23:47

didn't add, didn't spend and don't add and

23:49

don't spend and are not aggressive enough with

23:51

some of the problems that are still haunting

23:54

the Cowboys today that we see play out

23:56

on the field. That's the point of talking

23:58

about the off season. Oh,

24:00

I remember those criticisms very

24:02

well. Okay, so

24:04

what? Are

24:07

they playing out to be accurate? What's

24:09

your point? What's your point? This

24:11

is not your job. Your

24:14

job isn't to let me go over all

24:16

the reasons that I did something and I'm

24:18

sorry that I did it. That's not your

24:20

job. Well,

24:22

my job is to ask why- You don't get a job

24:25

or I'll get another, I'll get somebody else to ask these

24:27

questions, man. Oh, Jerry,

24:29

we're just, we're trying to figure out

24:32

why the team is- No, no, I'm not kidding you. I'm

24:34

not kidding you. You're not

24:36

gonna figure out what the

24:38

team is doing right or wrong. If

24:41

you are or any five or

24:43

10 like you, you need

24:45

to come to this meeting I'm going to

24:47

today. There are 32 teams here. You're geniuses.

24:50

Well, that was a 10 out of 10 on the AUK meter. Hoo

24:54

boy. Yeah, I mean, that's like

24:56

the third time I've listened to that and

24:58

I still get just really strange and awkward.

25:00

Now Jerry Jones meets with the porters after

25:02

almost every game does weekly radio spots, a

25:04

105, three, the fan. It can

25:06

get like that. I can't remember being

25:09

just like that. What did you

25:11

make of all of them? Well,

25:13

Jerry, so I was at the game

25:15

when he was clearly unhappy. Jerry is

25:17

usually to his credit in

25:19

good humor, in good times and bad. He

25:21

is one of those people who thinks just

25:24

as long as you're talking about us, we know you're

25:26

going to have to talk about us when things are

25:28

bad. If you're talking about it when things are good.

25:30

This loss clearly stung. He made

25:33

it clear on Sunday, he was very unhappy about

25:35

it, that he was embarrassed by it. And clearly

25:37

he is still quite upset about

25:39

it just to tell you why he didn't talk

25:41

to reporters on his way in as he walked

25:43

in and the reporters among us, you

25:46

and I were there, converged on him. He

25:48

was grabbed by a league PR person by

25:50

the hand and pulled away from us. So

25:52

that's why Jerry didn't talk. And then when

25:54

he was on the way out and we

25:56

converged, Jerry, I want to stop for a

25:58

second. He turned and he looked at us,

26:00

he goes, I'm going to pass guys. And

26:03

then he stopped and he turned again

26:05

and he said, unless you want me

26:07

to chew your bleep out joking. And

26:09

then he said, thumbs up. So Jerry's

26:13

going through it a little bit right now.

26:15

This was a tough loss, joking, but not

26:17

entirely joking. Look, it's been a tough week

26:19

and Jerry is well aware of the shortcomings

26:22

of his team. And certainly he is well

26:24

aware of the role he plays in

26:26

contributing to the shortcomings. It's been a tough week for

26:28

Jerry. I don't think it's fair to say going into

26:30

this by, which I think a lot of people expected

26:33

changes and seem like there's going to be a lot

26:35

of changes. There will be a ton of eyeballs on

26:37

the Cowboys over the next three or so weeks leading

26:40

up to the trade deadline, seeing what they do.

26:42

They do get some of the defensive stars, including

26:44

Micah Parsons back, but whoo. Yeah.

26:46

A lot of people looking at the Cowboys after that

26:48

one, Tom, take it away. Did

26:50

Ian say 10 out of 10 on the

26:52

Auc meter? That was

26:54

an 11 time now for game

26:57

flow presented by progressive. Insurance. A

26:59

lot's changed over the past week or so for

27:01

the New York Jets. They got a new head

27:04

coach. They got a new wide receiver. They got

27:06

another loss right there sealed

27:08

by Taran Johnson picking off Aaron

27:10

Rodgers on a route that Rogers

27:12

made abundantly clear. Mike Williams did

27:14

not quite run correctly. You know

27:17

who knows how to run routes

27:19

exactly like Rogers wants his old

27:21

buddy, Devontae Adams, who is officially

27:23

now a New York jet. The

27:25

Jets sending a third round conditional

27:27

pick in 2025 that can become

27:30

a second rounder to the Las

27:32

Vegas Raiders. Also taking on the

27:34

entirety of Adams remaining salary to

27:36

make sure that they were able

27:38

to make this reunion happen. As

27:40

we welcome you back to the

27:43

insiders. Join now by Brian Baldinger

27:45

and Mark Ross Baldy. It has been

27:47

a day around the NFL. Lots going

27:50

on. Let's start out with this

27:52

trade. You've had like, oh, over a year to

27:54

think about how this might work out. Devontae Adams,

27:56

it's really happened. He's a jet. Well,

28:00

he's already in the building in Florham Park.

28:02

So it was already orchestrated. Maybe

28:04

as soon as they lost last night, he was on a plane to

28:06

get here. Look, he

28:09

wants to be here. Aaron wants him here. We've known

28:11

that for a long time. But I

28:13

don't know that just because Devontae here, they haven't

28:15

played in three years together. So

28:17

maybe they still have the same

28:19

connection. Maybe they still have this

28:21

ability, like be able to make

28:23

these kind of throws like Minshew

28:25

did to Devontae against the Ravens this

28:27

year. I don't know that

28:29

it's going to fix the penalty

28:31

situation, the breakdowns that have existed

28:34

in the passing game. Some

28:36

of the lapses and just

28:40

awareness of this football team in

28:42

all phases, whether it's the kicking game or whatever. I don't

28:44

know if it's gonna fix all that. I know this though,

28:47

Mark, when I look at the last three

28:49

games, whether it's Denver, Minnesota over London, or

28:52

last time against Buffalo, they could

28:54

have won all three games on the final drive.

28:56

They couldn't make the play. They make the play

28:58

to Mike Williams. Didn't make the play to Garrett

29:00

Wilson a week ago in London. Miss

29:03

Routs against Denver in the rain. I

29:05

mean, maybe Devontae is that guy at the end

29:07

of these games that could win it for him.

29:10

I think that's what they're all hoping. I

29:12

think there's still a mishmash

29:14

of problems within this franchise, within the team,

29:16

that still have to get corrected. And Rogers

29:19

talked a little bit about it, that we

29:21

have to detail our business, but this is

29:23

week six, Mark. I don't know when the

29:25

details are supposed to be polished at this

29:28

point. 100% Baldy. I

29:30

think the Jets kind of are what they are

29:32

right now, and hope is not a true strategy.

29:35

Running front offices, hope is not a

29:37

strategy. But you talked about the positives

29:39

there with the GM Aaron Rogers getting

29:41

his guy now. And if this doesn't

29:43

work out, then there really is no

29:45

more excuses there for the Jets and

29:47

what they're doing. But you talked about

29:49

some of the problems, and Baldy,

29:52

even the O-line, you didn't mention the O-line

29:54

and how porous they were last night, and

29:56

adding to the penalties that crushed

29:58

some touchdowns and crushed some dry. So

30:00

I think schematically also the

30:02

positives of that is that the ball has

30:04

to come out so quick for Aaron Rodgers

30:06

now you see you've seen them and we

30:09

six games now it really has to come

30:11

out if not the plays don't

30:13

get made so Devontae Adams gives him that

30:15

quick outlet to go with Garrett Wilson which

30:17

are really trying to do is both of

30:19

those guys win one on ones and Aaron

30:21

gets into the ball gets the ball to

30:23

them extremely quick. Now that limits your offense

30:25

if they run the ball the way they

30:27

did last night with Breece Hall finally looking

30:30

like the Breece Hall that we've seen then

30:32

that opens it up a little more but

30:34

I still think as you said there's a

30:36

lot of fundamental problems here with this Jets

30:39

team with the penalties with the O-line with

30:41

the age and Devontae Adams

30:43

hasn't played in three weeks. Now that

30:45

hamstring miraculously recovered there going up getting

30:47

on that flight going to New York

30:49

so will there be some rust too but

30:51

you know I don't think this solves a problem still see a little

30:53

bit of up and down from the Jets the rest of the way.

30:57

There were several other teams that were

30:59

involved in having interest in Devontae Adams

31:01

including the Saints the Steelers and the

31:03

Bills who just hours after the Devontae

31:05

Adams trade became final and official made

31:08

their own move trading for a Mari

31:10

Cooper it's basically a third round pick

31:12

that goes to Cleveland. There's also a

31:14

pick flop involved in the deal a

31:16

big difference here Baldy was the Bills

31:18

couldn't take on eleven point six million

31:21

dollars for Devontae Adams because the Browns

31:23

had restructured Cooper earlier this year they

31:25

get him for about eight hundred grand for

31:27

the rest of the season. How do

31:29

you see this fitting in for Mari

31:31

Cooper in Buffalo. Well

31:34

I think first of all you're going to get a very

31:36

motivated Mari Cooper I mean you go from a one in

31:38

five Brown scene that's going nowhere to

31:41

a first place for two bills team that

31:43

won the division four years ago everybody wants

31:45

to go to a winner. I can't imagine

31:47

a receiver in this league that wouldn't want

31:49

to play with Josh Allen. Look

31:52

they're a run first team right now under

31:54

Joe Brady the offensive coordinator but

31:56

there's a place for a Mari in this

31:59

offense for sure. They're 25th

32:01

in passing right now. That's probably not good

32:03

enough to win playoff games. You

32:06

know, you heard last night, Sean McDermott

32:08

talk about when Josh

32:10

Allen shakes loose, we gotta be

32:12

able to, you know, run our

32:14

different plays after the X's and O's

32:17

take over, you know, the scramble drills.

32:20

I can imagine Amari Cooper being in love

32:22

when Josh Allen shakes loose and to get

32:24

into his vision to catch a lot of

32:26

passes for this offense. He's a great route

32:28

runner. You gotta give him and be patient

32:31

with him to win those routes, but he's

32:33

still an elite player on the outside, something

32:35

I think the Bills could really use, Mark.

32:38

I absolutely love this for the Bills with

32:40

Amari Cooper. And the difference here is you're

32:42

not expecting Amari Cooper to come in here

32:44

and save this offense. You've seen that they

32:46

can, like last night, run the ball. They

32:48

still have Josh Allen, a top three quarterback

32:50

in the league who can take over games.

32:53

What it does bringing in Amari Cooper, a

32:55

true number one receiver is it makes

32:57

all of those other players better,

32:59

all those other players that got

33:01

elevated above what their competency was.

33:04

You guys heard about the Peter

33:06

principle. Look into that. The Bills

33:08

receivers got raised over the Peter

33:10

principle above what they really were

33:12

competent to do, whereas the one

33:15

should have been the two, the two should

33:17

have been a three. Now with Amari Cooper,

33:19

everybody can settle into their role. And

33:22

it just gives Josh Allen that outlet of when

33:24

I need a big play, he was going

33:26

to Mack Hollands in big situations last night. No, now

33:28

I've got Amari Cooper, one of the best receivers in

33:30

the league to go to, to

33:32

go with what I can do and take

33:35

over games, Josh Allen, how we've seen the

33:37

run game go. I just love

33:39

this, this fit with the Bills with

33:41

Amari Cooper. Mark Baldy, thank

33:43

you very much. Look forward to speaking with the

33:46

two of you again soon. Look forward to speaking

33:48

to our next guest as well, Colts

33:50

running back, Jonathan Taylor. Will he be

33:53

out there this week after battling that

33:55

high ankle sprain? And how good can

33:57

this Colts team be? Some good stuff.

36:00

tasting more of the honey barbecue,

36:02

of course tossed by yours truly

36:04

myself. Um, but I

36:07

would say that the honey barbecue definitely would

36:09

have been my favorite from today, but also

36:11

seeing a lot of the smiling fans, a

36:14

lot of people in the community from young to old,

36:17

I would say that this is

36:19

something that every player should try and

36:21

do on their off time. They're whenever

36:23

they're not rehabbing, whenever they're not on

36:25

the field training, whenever they're not lifting,

36:27

go back to your community and just, and

36:30

just go back to the fans that make

36:32

your stadium very, very special because that's,

36:34

that's what it is. They make your stadium special.

36:36

So it's always good to connect with them. Here's

36:39

what I appreciate you, T a lot of guys

36:41

come through here and they're pitching different products and

36:43

different things. You knew the menu. Okay. You had

36:45

the breakdown on the exact sauces that you were

36:47

going to get on those chicken strips. So good

36:49

on you for knowing the lines. All right. Let's

36:51

talk about the other thing that people are also

36:54

curious about if they didn't already run out to

36:56

go get a blizzard right now. How's

36:58

the ankle? How are you feeling? And are we

37:00

going to see you on Sunday against the dolphins?

37:03

I'm definitely feeling better this week. Um, ankles are

37:05

nothing new to me. I've been dealing with them

37:07

for, for quite a bit. I'm doing everything in

37:09

my power to be back out there again this

37:11

week. Um, you know, the high

37:13

ankles are always tricky. Um, especially when, uh,

37:16

you know, you're playing a high contact sport like

37:18

this. Um, but I'm sure I'm up for the

37:20

challenge. Me and the training staff with Andy Annapolis,

37:22

we're going to do everything that we can do

37:25

to be back out there this week and in

37:27

the coming weeks going forward. Cause it's

37:29

just, you want to be out there with

37:31

your team, helping them make plays. But I

37:33

have the utmost confidence in our team. You

37:35

guys saw young guys stepped up. We were

37:37

able to get a hard road division when,

37:39

um, and we got a chance to

37:41

come back home this week. So we'll feed off the crowd

37:43

at Lucas oil. I'm sure there'll be into it, but it

37:46

won't be easy. And Shane Steiken

37:48

already said that Barney setback, Anthony Richardson is

37:50

going to be out there again this week.

37:52

We just saw him throwing no look chicken

37:54

finger tosses to you here when it comes

37:56

to the football. Number one, what do you

37:58

see from him? him how is he feeling

38:00

but also just what do you see in

38:02

terms of the growth and why people watching

38:04

the show should believe in Anthony Richardson as

38:07

the Colts franchise QB. Yeah

38:09

definitely especially today at our event

38:12

Anthony did most of the toss in and for sure

38:14

I did a lot of the sauce and I think

38:16

that was only right but I've definitely

38:19

seen him grow from the previous year I

38:21

mean he was hit with adversity right away

38:24

no one wants to see this happen no one wants this

38:26

to happen but going down your rookie year but

38:29

as a quarterback I think it's a

38:31

tough thing that finding your off field

38:33

routine is almost harder than being able

38:35

to get better on the field because

38:37

everybody's a great talent in the NFL

38:39

of course you'll be able to find

38:42

your way on the field that's how

38:44

we found our way into the NFL

38:46

but it's that off that off

38:48

the field program that routine what's going to set

38:50

you to part from other players in its league

38:52

how are you going to get an edge and

38:54

I've seen him do that day in and day

38:57

out on and off the field

38:59

so being able to continue to see him grow

39:01

you guys have seen it him on the field

39:03

he's going to make electrifying plays he's going to

39:05

be a playmaker and now adding that on top

39:07

of that off of the field he's going to

39:10

be very very special to watch in the years

39:12

come and years to come so

39:14

last thing real quick for let you go JT

39:16

I'm setting my fancy lineup now you're saying I

39:19

am safe putting you in the lineup I should

39:21

do it right now well

39:23

I don't want you to put me in and then now

39:26

I'm out but as long as you have a good swap

39:28

then you're perfect well

39:31

I know you're going to be out there

39:33

all right you're confident though it's headed the

39:35

right direction that's what matters and we know

39:37

Dairy Queen also headed the right direction because

39:39

we got you guys over there saucing and

39:41

tossing Jonathan Taylor thanks for being here man

39:43

please come back thank you

39:45

so much Tom I appreciate you always a pleasure

39:48

big one for the Colts this week

39:51

against the Miami Dolphins big one on

39:53

Thursday night football for a Saints team

39:55

that are we going to recognize anybody

39:57

they're putting out there against Bowdoin the

40:00

Broncos are guys Sam Schwartzstein will be

40:03

here for an analytical look at this

40:05

TNF matchup. Thursday

40:07

Night Football on Prime features Sean Payton's

40:09

return to New Orleans. It's Payton's Broncos

40:11

taken on the Saints this Thursday 815

40:14

PM Eastern time, only on

40:16

Prime Video. Welcome back to

40:19

the Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance, Tom

40:21

Pelissero, no, joined by Sam Schwartzstein, Prime Video

40:24

and Thursday Night Football's analytics expert who is

40:26

going to use next gen stats to help

40:28

us break down this matchup. Sam, thank you

40:30

so much for being here. A pair of

40:33

rookies facing off, but Bo Nix, kind of

40:35

the veteran in this game, not just because

40:37

he's like 35 years old here. What

40:40

are you encouraged by from Nix so far? Yeah,

40:43

I mean, if you squint hard enough, you don't see

40:45

10 back there in Denver, you see 15. He's

40:48

doing his best Tim T-Bo Nix back

40:50

there. He hasn't done great in the air,

40:52

but he keeps this team in the game

40:55

by utilizing his legs. He'll escape the pocket.

40:58

What I'm really excited about is the ability

41:00

to get first downs. I'm not just so concerned

41:02

with how many yards he's able to get

41:04

or any high analytics using

41:06

scrambling, but his ability to keep

41:08

the team moving, breaking tackles, extending

41:11

drives by getting that extra first down.

41:14

We had a 40 yard scramble at the

41:16

end of the game against the Chargers that

41:18

was able to help get them into opponent

41:20

territory to have a chance to come back.

41:22

And this team will always leave on their

41:24

defense and for rookie quarterback, it's always tough,

41:26

but his ability to utilize his legs is

41:28

giving him that Ferris Bueller esque randomness

41:31

that Sean Payton has seen this year. Spencer

41:33

Rattler got his first start with their car out.

41:35

Sounds like he'll be out there again Thursday. What

41:37

did Rattler show you just in his first few

41:39

plays? Show me that they have a lot

41:42

of confidence in him and they're going to Clint

41:44

Kubiak, the offensive coordinator, is going to scheme

41:46

specific plays for him to throw on the

41:48

run. Over 33% of his throws

41:50

when he was moving eight or more

41:52

miles per hour. And this was his

41:54

first play. It's a designed rollout. 25%

41:57

of his dropbacks are designed rollouts. He's not going

41:59

to play. like Tom Brady in the backfield scanning

42:02

the entire field. He's gonna either get them moving

42:04

by design or he's gonna utilize his legs to

42:06

extend plays. This is a really good thing we

42:08

saw. Now, in the second half, they weren't able

42:10

to do this because the run game wasn't there,

42:13

but with the amount of players they're missing on

42:15

the offensive line, moving the pocket and getting Rattler

42:17

moving is how they have a chance to win

42:19

this game on Thursday. Meanwhile, you've

42:21

got a Broncos front led by a guy named Zach

42:23

Allen, maybe not a household name, but what do you

42:25

see from him in that Broncos team? Yeah,

42:28

when you see him on Thursday night on Prime

42:30

Vision, you might think he's the long lost Watt

42:33

brother wearing 99 with the elbow brace, and he

42:35

plays like JJ Watt. He's got a guy, 28

42:37

run stops. That means that

42:39

a tackle that resulted in a negative play on

42:41

a run. He's really doing his

42:44

best in the NFL to break through those

42:46

blocks, but he also does it in the

42:48

pass game. You know, when his time in

42:50

Arizona, he really came on at the end,

42:52

earned him this big contract for the Broncos,

42:54

and now he's able to get in the

42:56

backfield, not just on runs, but on pass.

42:58

With Patrick Lutain being questionable, Zach Allen's the guy

43:00

they're gonna lean on as the linchpin for this

43:03

defense. Thank you, as

43:05

always, Sam. You can watch Sam

43:07

every week on Thursday Night Football's

44:17

It was a day across the

44:19

NFL here. We had trades galore.

44:21

We had, look at the beat

44:23

by beat. I have not moved

44:26

from right here this entire time,

44:28

three trades, a likely quarterback

44:30

change in Pittsburgh. Hassan Redick has permission

44:32

to seek a trade. We got Tom

44:34

Brady's back as an owner. We

44:37

also had a big deal within the past

44:39

few minutes, the Lions locking up defensive tackle,

44:41

Aleem McNeil. Who? Aleem McNeil

44:43

on a four year $97 million

44:46

deal with $55 million guaranteed. And

44:48

also this, the 12 year anniversary

44:50

of Ian Rappaport getting hit in

44:53

the face by a football, a

44:55

ball that now has been enshrined to Ian in the

44:57

pro football hall of fame. How does it feel?
