2:44

Aaron Rodgers did not get

2:46

Robert Sallafired. Just

2:48

ask Aaron Rodgers. Hear what the four-time

2:50

NFL MVP had to say about a

2:52

wild week at one Jets drive and

2:55

how they can turn things around starting

2:57

Monday night against the Bills. Minshew

3:00

Mania is over in Las Vegas.

3:02

And, you know, at least for

3:04

this week, we'll tell you why

3:06

Antonio Pierce is giving the ball

3:08

to Aiden O'Connell instead. There's

3:10

no quarterback controversy in Minnesota. No game

3:12

for the Vikings this week either. But

3:14

we still track down one of their

3:16

defensive stars to find out what PG

3:18

rated nineties movie Cam Bynum might salute

3:20

in the end zone next. And

3:23

I suggest Encino man.

3:25

Welcome inside with the

3:27

insiders alongside Ian Rappaport,

3:29

Judy Batista and Mike

3:32

Garifolo. I am Tom

3:34

Pelissero. We are here on the

3:36

eve of week six already in

3:38

the NFL kicks off with a

3:40

good one in Seattle. Tomorrow night,

3:42

it's the Seahawks against the 49ers.

3:45

Week six will wrap up on

3:48

Monday night at MetLife Stadium with

3:50

an AFC East showdown. And

3:52

the Jets are going to have a new

3:54

head coach. As we discussed yesterday, Robert Solla

3:57

is out after three years and five games.

4:00

As the Jets head coach leaving behind a 20 and 36

4:02

record, Jeff

4:04

Ulbrich taking over on an interim

4:06

basis and will make his debut

4:08

against the Bills. A lot

4:11

of tweets, a lot of reports, a lot

4:13

of rumors, a lot of badly sourced information

4:15

flying around the internet. Aaron

4:17

Rodgers, where else went on the Pat

4:19

McAfee show to try to separate fact

4:21

from fiction? Yesterday

4:25

was a day that

4:27

reminds you of the simple fact

4:29

that all of us who played know all

4:31

too well. And that's that it's a

4:33

tough business. It's a beautiful profession. It's

4:36

incredible. It's done so much for our lives,

4:38

but it's also a really

4:40

tough business. I

4:43

love Coach Salah. We have

4:45

a very solid relationship. We

4:47

have since, you know, I met him

4:49

in 2021 and

4:52

had a nice conversation when they came

4:54

and visited us for joint practices. He

4:57

was a big reason why I came to the

4:59

Jets. You know, I felt like the

5:02

team, you know, was a solid

5:04

team, had a relationship with Coach Hackett

5:06

obviously, and I really liked Coach

5:09

Salah. Everything that Matt LaFleur said about him, the

5:11

few interactions I've had, the times that we

5:13

went against him, I

5:15

just had a lot of respect for him. And so, you

5:19

know, it was just a reminder yesterday how tough the business

5:21

is. Judy,

5:23

you've covered the New York Jets for a long

5:25

time. And in that time, you've seen a lot

5:27

of coaching changes, but not one here,

5:29

not after a two and three start, five

5:32

games into a season that began with a lot

5:34

of expectations that so far, it's early, but so

5:36

far, fair to say that they've fallen a little

5:38

bit short. When you hear what Aaron Rodgers had

5:40

to say, and he had a lot more to

5:42

say than that, what are your takeaways? Well,

5:46

first of all, I've covered stranger coaching changes at

5:48

the Jets than this, but one

5:51

thing that we didn't hear on that

5:53

clip was that he denied, flatly denied,

5:55

that he had anything to do with

5:57

Salah's firing. And he said he, presented

6:00

the implication that he would have had anything to

6:02

do with it. He did say,

6:04

though, that there needed to be changes, that something

6:06

had to change. He said, you know, the definition of

6:09

insanity is doing the same thing over and over again

6:11

and expecting a different result. And

6:13

he said he thought the key to a

6:15

turnaround at this point was player accountability, which

6:18

is a theme he has struck in the

6:20

past few weeks. He also said he knows

6:22

he did not play well, that he needs

6:24

to play better. And then I thought the

6:26

most interesting thing he said was that he

6:28

was on board with whatever Jeff Albrecht

6:30

wants to do with the offense, which

6:33

is definitely not a full-throated

6:36

endorsement of Nate Hackett as the

6:38

play caller. Now, Albrecht is

6:40

going to start tomorrow. He will meet

6:43

with the media. He met with the

6:45

media yesterday on a video conference call.

6:48

But he said on that conference call

6:50

that the staff

6:52

will stay intact, but maybe the job responsibilities

6:54

will change. So we will see what he

6:56

comes up with. But certainly, I thought that

6:59

opened the door, Rogers opened the door

7:01

there, to him saying, like, whatever

7:03

he wants to do with the offense, I am on

7:06

board with, and we're going to throw our support behind

7:08

Jeff Albrecht. So his theme

7:11

was he is all in.

7:13

He certainly still has a

7:15

great relationship with Hackett.

7:17

But it seems clear that he

7:19

is prepared, everybody is prepared,

7:21

for a shakeup for the

7:23

offense. A lot of

7:25

signs pointing to Todd Downing potentially having at least

7:28

an increased role when it comes to the offense

7:30

this week. We'll see where it

7:32

winds up as we get closer to Monday night

7:34

in a game that if the Jets win, they

7:37

are tied for first place. We cannot say that

7:39

enough because a lot of folks who

7:41

would have supported Robert Salah would say, but they

7:43

had the chance to play themselves in the first.

7:45

Well, yeah, you know what? But now if Jeff

7:47

Ulbrich does it and Tom, you talked about it

7:49

the other night, a lot of times you see

7:51

that interim come in that first game. You get

7:53

that boost from the interim coach. If

7:56

you get that and you turn around, you go, oh my

7:58

goodness, we're in first place. And we've

8:00

got the momentum of just beating the team that was

8:02

in first place in the AFCs. All of a sudden

8:04

that energy can start to roll. So coach O'Brick, it's

8:06

not up there anymore. It was up there. Coach

8:09

O'Brick is what Rogers called him. He was brick when

8:11

he was the defensive coordinator. Now he's coach O'Brick, but

8:14

I would advise brick slash coach

8:16

O'Brick to keep that energy going because

8:18

that Ian is what Woody Johnson wants

8:20

to see from him as the interim

8:22

head coach. Yeah.

8:25

And you do sometimes see the interim comes in,

8:27

you get a little bit of a bounce and

8:29

the team kind of takes on a new identity.

8:31

We saw last year with the Raiders, which we're

8:33

going to get to in a second, but obviously

8:35

that's the hope. Some positivity, some energy for

8:38

the New York jets. You know, the storyline

8:40

of whether or not Aaron Rogers got Robert

8:42

Salah fired, which I also believe it definitely

8:44

did not happen like that at all. Mighty

8:46

of step didn't save them. I don't even

8:48

know because it didn't sound like Woody Johnson

8:50

had that conversation with him, but we will

8:52

never know. I don't know if any of

8:55

that matters. What matters is as Aaron Rogers

8:57

talked about on the Pat McAfee show, if

8:59

he played better, if the offense was better,

9:01

if it was not a stagnant, Robert Salah

9:03

would still be the head coach of the

9:05

New York jets right now. So all the

9:07

discussion of the energy and the new coach,

9:10

it's all good. It's all interesting.

9:12

We're going to see it play out. But

9:14

if this offense does not improve and you

9:16

know, Woody Johnson vowed changes, maybe

9:19

the changes that tied down and he's going to

9:21

get a little more involved. I would expect that.

9:23

But this often doesn't start functioning like a regular,

9:25

excellent Aaron Rogers offense. Then I don't know

9:28

that any of this is going to matter

9:30

in December and January, frankly. As

9:33

Mike said, a Jets win on Monday night would mean

9:35

they're tied for first place in the division. A

9:37

nationally televised loss after making the most significant

9:39

move that you can make beyond benching the

9:42

quarterback, which obviously going to happen. Yeah, there'll

9:44

be a lot of feeling of now

9:46

what a lot at stake for

9:49

the Jets in that game on Monday

9:51

night. As for Robert Solla, he did

9:53

put out a statement earlier today thanking

9:55

everybody within the Jets organization for their

9:57

love and support over the past three.

10:01

talked about the players, his fellow coaches

10:03

and staff. Also wrote to the most

10:05

passionate fan base in the NFL, thank

10:07

you for embracing my family. It has

10:09

been a pleasure calling New York our

10:11

home. We will forever appreciate all the

10:13

memories that were created here, signed with

10:15

love and regard, all gas, no break.

10:17

That slogan will be back somewhere in

10:20

the NFL sooner than later. Elsewhere

10:22

in the AFC East, the Patriots also trying

10:24

to create some type of sea change. By

10:27

the way, they're only one game back of

10:29

the Jets. The AFC East is kind of

10:31

a mess at this point. And they're going

10:33

to the rookie, the number three overall pick

10:35

Drake May, as Ian

10:37

first reported on Tuesday, Gerod

10:40

male today confirmed will get

10:42

his first NFL start on

10:44

Sunday at home against

10:46

the Texans. How about that, Drake May? Yeah,

10:51

now we're in week six. So you get

10:53

to add five games of sitting on sideline here

10:55

in the play calls, preparing for the game, prepare

10:57

for Thursday night game or preparing for a

11:00

Sunday night or Sunday afternoon game. So I

11:02

feel like we've bounced a lot

11:04

of different things throughout the week and how

11:06

to prepare and just trying to tag along

11:08

from Jacoby veteran this league, who's does

11:11

a great job of learn so much from

11:13

him and seeing how he goes about practice.

11:15

So that's been probably the best thing of

11:17

watching Jacoby and watching how he handles the

11:20

whole nine yards, whether it's preparing, handling teammates,

11:22

handling y'all and just

11:25

he's been great and a great mentor. Judy,

11:28

the book on Drake May coming out of

11:30

North Carolina was of all the quarterbacks those

11:33

top guys in the strap, he probably needed

11:35

to sit the most because he was coming

11:37

from that very rudimentary Tar Heels offense. He's

11:39

a super young guy, just a lot to

11:41

learn here. That lasted all the

11:43

five games and as Drad Mayo alluded to

11:46

today, just the athletic ability that he brings

11:48

to the table maybe opens up some things

11:50

that perhaps might let them play above the

11:52

level of some of the things that have

11:54

been going on around. Jacoby Bercet. I

11:58

actually thought Drake may handle. that idea,

12:00

the idea of, well, you can make

12:02

some off-schedule plays, which his own coach

12:04

put out there. I thought he handled

12:06

that like a veteran because he said,

12:08

well, I want to play on schedule.

12:10

I don't want to go hunting for

12:12

those off-schedule plays. You know, just let—I'll

12:14

just take whatever they give

12:16

to me, take whatever the defense is giving to them.

12:19

So I thought that showed a maturity.

12:22

Gerad Mayo was asked, like, how have you

12:25

seen him progress in these weeks that he's

12:27

been practicing? And he said, like,

12:29

getting the play, getting into the huddle, getting

12:31

out of the huddle, calling the

12:33

play, executing the play. So, yes, very basic

12:36

stuff, but very basic stuff that Drake May

12:38

had to get up to speed on. And

12:41

also Gerad Mayo was asked, you know, is this

12:43

team good enough for Drake May to get in

12:46

there, right? You've got issues on the offensive line.

12:48

You've got issues with the wide receivers. And he

12:50

said, not

12:52

every team has a number-one receiver. And

12:54

he said, Drake May will make us

12:56

better now and going forward. So

12:59

they're going to see how this goes. As Ian posted on

13:01

Twitter, as Ian first

13:03

posted on Twitter, the future is now

13:06

in New England. A phrase that I

13:08

feel like I've heard somewhere before. Is

13:10

the future also now in New Orleans?

13:12

Well, for at least this week, the

13:14

Saints are going to get a look

13:16

at their fifth-round pick, Spencer Rattler, the

13:18

former Oklahoma and South Carolina quarterback, who

13:21

have been number three on the depth

13:23

chart, getting the opportunity this week rather

13:25

than Jake Hainer, who had been the

13:27

backup quarterback for the first five games

13:29

of the season. Mike, this is potentially

13:31

a multi-game audition for Spencer Rattler as

13:34

the quarterback of the future. Derek

13:36

Carr is going to be down a while. Why Rattler? Well,

13:39

you've got the short turnaround time that you're alluding to

13:41

next week as they got that Thursday game. So two

13:43

games in the next eight days, I think now, because

13:45

today's Wednesday. Yeah, that's how it works. But

13:48

why Spencer Rattler? You know, it's interesting. I

13:50

think that's Alan that I said, he said,

13:52

for this particular, we talked about it for

13:54

this particular game against the Buccaneers. We felt

13:56

that Spencer Rattler was the right

13:58

option. I think they want Rattler to go

14:00

out there and play loose. And

14:03

he did in the preseason, right? He just

14:05

looked so in control, so

14:07

decisive in what he wanted to do

14:09

out there. Now granted, he

14:12

wasn't going up against Todd Bull's first

14:14

team defense when he was playing in the preseason,

14:16

but that game against the Titans, I remember watching

14:18

that one closely. And he

14:20

was playing with energy and he was playing as

14:23

if he had been there for 10 years

14:25

now. So they wanna kinda see if they can get that

14:27

same kind of vibe going. Get him to

14:29

play loose. We'll see. It's gonna be

14:31

a regular season atmosphere against a really tough defense. Good

14:34

luck Spencer, Rattler. The

14:37

future is now in New Orleans. I'm

14:39

just gonna keep cutting these promos just

14:41

in case we need those a little

14:43

bit later. Another quarterback change today. The

14:45

Raiders moving forward with a quarterback who

14:47

also was their past. Aiden O'Connell, who

14:49

took over last year right after Antonio

14:51

Pierce got the interim job. They bench

14:54

Jimmy Garoppolo, put AOC out there. He

14:56

performed pretty well. He led them to

14:58

some wins. They went with Gardner Minshew

15:00

out of the gate. But now after

15:02

a two and three start, it is

15:04

back to O'Connell. Ian, different style. Aiden

15:07

O'Connell is your classic pocket passer. Gardner Minshew,

15:09

for better or worse, is doing a lot

15:11

of things running around outside the pocket. Why

15:14

O'Connell and why now for the Raiders? Changing

15:18

things on offense, trying to find a spark

15:20

makes a lot of sense. And the reality

15:22

is Antonio Pierce is probably not the Raiders

15:25

head coach right now had Aiden O'Connell

15:27

not come on late in the season and

15:29

played really well. I don't think there's really

15:31

not much debate there. Now, Gardner Minshew wins

15:33

the job at a training camp. I think

15:36

the argument is they were very, very similar.

15:38

So go with someone who is veteran, who's

15:40

been there, who could hopefully lead you to

15:43

some early wins. Maybe start fast. And then

15:45

if you need to go to the younger

15:47

player later, you could do that. Didn't quite

15:49

work out that way. The Raiders do have

15:51

some wins, but they haven't exactly started fast.

15:54

And now it is back to O'Connell. The

15:56

upside is obviously a little more, you know

15:58

what Gardner Minshew is. You've seen Gardner Minshew. We

16:00

don't know what Aiden O'Connell can become. It

16:03

gets the ball out of his hands quick.

16:05

He makes smart decisions. We've seen him play

16:07

really good football. Could he become more than

16:09

someone who competes annually for a starting job?

16:11

It is very possible. The Raiders very, very

16:13

much hope so. We're going to

16:15

get our first chance to see it this weekend

16:17

for Las Vegas. Devontae

16:19

Adams strongly implied on that receiver show

16:21

that he at minimum co-signed on the

16:24

quarterback change last year when they went

16:26

to Aiden O'Connell. No, Devontae

16:28

Adams for the Raiders this week. Antonio

16:30

Pierce did say they had a good

16:32

conversation recently. We'll see exactly where things

16:34

go from here on the Devontae Adams

16:36

situation. It's also Wednesday. So we've got

16:38

injury reports around the NFL. Some notable

16:40

names. Russell Wilson, full participant in practice

16:42

because of a calf. Mike Tomlin had

16:44

said this was coming. That's the first

16:47

time since Russell Wilson re-injured that calf

16:49

before week one. He's been listed as

16:51

a full participant. So continuing to ramp

16:53

up even though Justin Fields at this

16:55

point remains QB1. Anthony

16:57

Richardson listed as limited still working his way

16:59

back from that oblique injury. Joe Flacco played

17:02

well. We'll see how his participation potentially ramps

17:04

up through the course of the week. Still

17:06

no Malik neighbors. He's been in concussion protocol

17:08

now for I believe 13 days one

17:11

to keep an eye on here. Great sign for

17:13

the Eagles. A.J. Brown, Devontae Smith both

17:15

missed their game before the bye. Full

17:18

participants today which would suggest they

17:20

are back. And as for the

17:22

NFL's leading receiver, Nico Collins officially

17:24

placed on injury reserve because of

17:26

that hamstring injury. That means he

17:28

is out a minimum of

17:31

four games. Coming up after

17:33

this one of the bright young stars

17:35

for a team that beat those Texans

17:37

back in week three handed Houston. It's

17:40

only lost Cam Bynum part of that

17:42

Vikings defense that played a

17:44

role in some of those changes for the

17:46

Jets this week. He joins the show from

17:48

the beach. I think right after this on

17:50

the inset. Banking

18:37

Rogers blitzed again. He'll fire over the

21:24

middle. Intercepted! Yes! Picked off

21:26

at the 42-yard line

21:28

by Cam Bynum! And

21:32

for Cam, that's his second interception this

21:34

year. And this stadium, which is colored

21:36

in purple, has plenty of reason to

21:38

cheer. The Vikings have the ball

21:41

and a 10-0 lead. The

21:43

big stage in London, the

21:47

5-0 Vikings and a celebration for the

21:49

ages brought to you by this guy,

21:51

Viking Safety, Cam Bynum, a repeat guest

21:53

right here on The Insiders with me,

21:55

Tom Pelissero, Judy Batista. and

22:00

Mike Garofolo. Can we appreciate you being

22:02

here because I'm not mistaken. You're on

22:04

a bi-week vacation in Hawaii. What are

22:07

you doing there? Yep, I'm

22:09

on the beach right now. I'm just trying

22:11

to get away from football. I wish

22:13

I was doing this interview on the beach but there's

22:15

some kids running around. So I was like, let me

22:17

keep it professional and get in my hotel room. But

22:19

yeah, I'm happy to be here. Thank you guys for

22:21

having me. Kids running

22:23

around here too. Kids running around. We were on the

22:25

beach with you doing the interview. There's no rules

22:28

on this show. Yeah. Yeah. Let

22:31

me just start by asking, like, I don't know

22:33

if too many people, and I'll include myself in

22:35

this thought, the Vikings were going to start the season

22:38

5-0 and be the

22:40

story of the NFL. At

22:42

what point did you think you

22:45

might have had something special here with this team? I'm

22:48

obviously being a player. You

22:50

always know that you guys have

22:52

the confidence and you see the work that

22:55

you guys put behind the scenes. But really,

22:57

we knew it from the beginning. When you just look around

23:00

the team and see the weapons that we have on offense

23:02

and defense, it's hard to really find a weak

23:04

point on our team. So really

23:06

going through training camp, we would look at each

23:09

other and be like, OK, this has a little

23:11

different feel this year, just how

23:13

competitive practices were and how really looking

23:15

around and seeing the experience that we

23:17

have just through every single position.

23:19

We knew that there would be something special, but

23:21

it was a matter of, OK, can we make

23:24

it sustain? And here we are five weeks,

23:26

still haven't lost a game. And we know

23:28

that we have something special, but it's

23:30

only five weeks so far. We still have to get to 17

23:33

games then the postseason. So our mindset

23:35

is let's just keep stacking and keep

23:37

it rolling because 5-0 means nothing

23:39

in the big picture. Here's

23:42

what I love about when Cam Bynum's on the show. His

23:46

news tends to register in

23:48

non-sports outlets. You had the situation with your

23:50

wife last year trying to get her back

23:52

to the states, outlets all over the place

23:54

covering that one. And now this week, the

23:56

Us Weeklies of the world, the peoples of

23:59

the world. covering your parent

24:01

trap handshake celebration

24:04

after your interception. Take us through

24:06

the play if you want to,

24:08

we'd love to talk football, but also take us

24:10

through the celebration, the inspiration and

24:13

how you saw a movie that

24:15

really has been several iterations before

24:17

your time. So

24:19

yeah, I guess we'll start with the football part. I know that's

24:21

what the people want to hear. So

24:24

really being able to pick off Aaron Rodgers, that's

24:26

a big deal. And especially me being

24:29

a cow guy, went to my

24:31

college and somebody I look up to. So it's

24:33

been on my bucket list to go against him

24:35

and pick them off. So I was glad to

24:38

finally be able to get them. But now the

24:40

fun part, the celebration, that's something we've been planning

24:42

for a while this season. Our

24:45

goal is to really just have as much fun as possible.

24:47

We know the more plays we make, the more fun we

24:49

can have. So going through this

24:51

week leading up to it, I was getting a massage

24:53

and I was watching, I was on Disney Plus and

24:55

I'm like, okay, Parent Trap's one of my favorite movies.

24:58

I started watching it and I'm like, oh wait, they're

25:00

in London. Then I started doing

25:02

a handshake and I'm like, I got one. So

25:04

I knew it'd be a viral one. So I

25:06

tell my partner in crime, Josh

25:09

Mattelis, I said, hey, I got a celebration

25:11

for us this week. We're going viral and

25:13

people are gonna love this one, especially because

25:15

it's a legendary movie. And from 1998, the

25:17

year we were both born. So

25:22

it's a deep meaning for both of us.

25:24

So I'm like, we knew that this is

25:26

gonna be viral and this is gonna be

25:28

one of the celebrations that we have to

25:31

do. So, but it's not over.

25:33

We're gonna make more plays and get more celebrations out

25:35

there. There's

25:37

so many layers on which I love this

25:39

camp. One being you have the foresight to

25:41

go, we're going to London. Why don't I

25:44

put together a Parent Trap celebration? But you

25:46

still have to make the play to allow

25:48

you to do the celebration. You succeed in

25:51

that, but it's also the fact that, at

25:53

a time that every week there's players now

25:55

getting fined for pointing in a gun-like motion

25:57

and things like that. You

26:00

were going G-rated, you were going with kids'

26:02

movies. And so I gotta ask you, like

26:04

what, I know you probably got 10 different

26:06

things, but what's one thing you're cooking up

26:09

for a future celebration? I

26:12

don't know if I wanna tell you, but just

26:14

because this is the big moment, I'm

26:16

with you guys, I'll tell you

26:19

the next one, that'll be, I'm thinking of

26:21

Finneas and Ferb one, just for the newer

26:23

generation, still G-rated, but I can't

26:25

tell you the exact one from Finneas and Ferb,

26:28

but that's the one we have cooking up. And

26:30

when you see it, you'll know. And if you

26:32

guys, the kids are watching, they'll know exactly what

26:34

it is. But yeah, I need a G-rated because

26:36

my parents would still yell at me if I

26:39

do something crazy, like show a gun or whatever.

26:41

So I'm keeping it friendly out there. I

26:46

would just recommend maybe Peppa Pig for a future

26:49

one too. That was a favorite. I don't know

26:51

if her animations are good enough. I

26:54

mean, obviously

26:58

you gotta make plays on defense to

27:00

have the occasion to do all these

27:02

celebrations. Like you

27:04

guys have already taken apart like

27:06

CJ Stroud, Brock Birdie, obviously Aaron

27:08

Rodgers last week. Like why

27:11

is this defense so good

27:13

right now at confusing top

27:15

quarterbacks? I would

27:17

just say the fact that we have so many capable

27:20

players that are capable of changing the game.

27:23

Every week, coach Flo always talks about, I don't

27:25

know who's gonna make the play, but somebody's gonna

27:28

be making multiple plays. And I don't know who

27:30

it is gonna be this week or next week

27:32

or the week after, but somebody's gonna be the

27:34

person to have the big game, the game over

27:36

their life. And I think across

27:38

the whole board, every single player on

27:40

our defense is capable of having a

27:43

life-changing game. So the fact that we

27:45

have those types of players and on

27:47

top of that, we play team defense

27:49

and everybody just plays sound technique. Compared

27:52

to last year, we're not even doing as

27:54

much quote unquote crazy stuff as you guys

27:56

are used to seeing out of coach

27:59

Flo. really we're just

28:01

knowing that we have to come out there

28:03

and just play team ball and we'll start

28:05

making plays. So that's really the biggest thing

28:07

about it. We just have fun playing together.

28:11

Cam, it's October's Filipino Heritage

28:13

Month. You're a proud Filipino.

28:16

Tell us what it means to you to be

28:18

able to play football in that month. Like it's

28:20

great that it's an October during football season, not

28:22

like in May when you're doing OTAs or whatever.

28:24

Exactly. But tell us what this month means to

28:26

you. Yeah, just being able

28:28

to represent something. I first and

28:30

foremost represent God and just with

28:32

my platform and bring all glory to Jesus.

28:34

But being able to represent people that, especially

28:37

in sports, doesn't really see much light. As

28:41

Filipinos, we saw Manny Pacquiao and what he

28:43

meant to us and the way that I

28:45

looked up to him, even as a football

28:47

player. So if I'm able to represent some

28:49

people that really don't see much,

28:51

see themselves in sports very much, and I'm

28:54

able to be that example, it's an honor

28:56

and it's a blessing. So I really take

28:58

that serious, being able to show the flag

29:00

and just represent my people whenever I can,

29:03

because I've realized how big of a deal

29:05

it is for people, whether it's a popular

29:07

sport, like basketball, boxing

29:09

in the world, or for me, being

29:11

a Filipino playing American football, it's new

29:13

and it's different. But the way that

29:16

people support it and really feel

29:18

that sense of pride when they see me doing

29:21

something positive and any other Filipino doing something positive

29:23

in sports, it's a big deal. So I'm just

29:25

trying to be somebody, the kids, even the adults

29:27

can look up to you. I've

29:31

heard you say it before Cam, after celebrating

29:33

a big win, movie, right? Movie, that's all

29:35

about it, man. Your movie keeps getting better

29:38

and better. So just keep coming back, keep

29:40

celebrating, keep getting pics, man. You're welcome on

29:42

the show anytime. Yes, sir. Thank you

29:44

for having me. I appreciate it. Look forward to being

29:46

back. You got it, Cam. All right,

29:48

enjoy the beach. I will.

32:24

guys, this is Matt Jones, Drew Franklin from

32:26

the Fade This podcast. We got a great episode

32:29

coming up, picks in all the sports, football,

32:31

basketball, we do them all, but here's a

32:33

preview of this week's episode. This

32:35

is a perfect thing, Billy. Kansas State is

32:37

being overlooked because of what happened at BYU.

32:41

Mike Gundy is a snot head. His

32:43

perm is finally catching up to him.

32:45

They lost at home to Utah.

32:48

This is another one I like, Will

32:50

Howard. You know, he's the quarterback

32:52

at Kansas State. He's not there anymore. He

32:54

was last year. Will Howard used to be

32:56

the quarterback at Kansas State. Now it's a

32:58

guy with long hair, right? Avery Johnson. Avery

33:01

Johnson, yeah. Used to coach Alabama. Now he's

33:03

the quarterback. Now he's the

33:05

quarterback at Kansas State. I

33:08

love the Kansas State...

33:13

Purple Wildcats. Wildcats. Yeah, there it is. And

33:15

33:25

of all, give it up for yourself for playing a four-quarter

33:27

game. Here's

33:31

the deal, man. It's hard to win in

33:33

this league when we take care of business,

33:36

even though it was not our best. It was

33:38

not our best, especially that first

33:40

half. We got it together, but we battled

33:42

for four quarters. So I'm proud of the

33:44

effort of that. But we got to clean

33:46

a lot of up, man. But

33:48

like I said, it's a long trip coming

33:51

out here and battling until the

33:53

end and coming away with a dub. So

33:55

I'm very proud of the effort and

33:57

we got to celebrate this. You with me?

34:00

game balls. All right. And the first guy,

34:02

you got to give it up for him.

34:04

He had two tugs today. Four catches, 88

34:07

yards. The second guy, man.

34:09

I don't want to jinx

34:11

it, but five picks

34:19

and five. Oh,

34:24

well, we'll get to that second guy in a

34:26

second. Very pleased to bring in my good friend

34:28

Omar Ruiz, who of course was in

34:31

SoFi Stadium watching Packers Rams.

34:33

And that was an emotional

34:35

game. I know you talked to a ton of people

34:38

and there's a lot to get to. You are also

34:40

here to talk to us of course, about the

34:43

Cardinals Packers game. Let's get to

34:45

the offense, right? You have been able to see

34:47

Jordan Love up close. It has

34:49

been a roller coaster season. It is starting

34:51

to get really good again. What are your

34:54

takeaways from this Packers offense in love? Well,

34:58

first of all, with the knee and Jordan Love

35:00

told me after the game that his knee was

35:02

feeling dramatically better than it did after that Minnesota

35:04

game. Matt Leflor even saying that it looked like

35:07

he was moving around a lot better, didn't affect

35:09

anything and their play calls or how they would

35:11

want him moving around. What

35:13

Matt Leflor told me about Jordan Love after

35:15

the game was that one of his superpowers

35:18

is that he doesn't blink when the pressure

35:20

comes. And that was indicative on the pick

35:22

six that he threw, backed up against their

35:24

end zone, the Rams score, get all the

35:26

momentum with about two minutes to

35:28

play in the first half. Love maintains

35:30

his poise and leaves a nine play

35:33

42 yard drive to set up a

35:35

critical field goal possession at the first

35:37

half buzzer to keep the Packers in

35:39

the game. And subsequently the next two

35:41

possessions of the second half, they scored

35:43

touchdowns. Now Leflor saying that they would

35:45

like to establish a little more consistency

35:48

offensively. It seems like they've been feast

35:50

or famine. They have those huge explosive

35:52

plays and then, or they're a three

35:54

and out type of scenario. So looking

35:56

for that consistency with that offense and

35:59

then about Jordan Love. he embodies that

36:01

consistency. He leads the league in touchdowns

36:03

per game right now. He also leads

36:05

the league in interceptions per game. And

36:07

Matt LaFlore saying on that 53 yard,

36:10

big play to Jayden Reed, he was like, no,

36:12

no, no. Cause it was in a triple coverage.

36:15

And then once Reed caught it, yes. And it

36:17

set up the Packers first score. So it's been

36:19

that kind of season exciting, but if they can

36:21

find that consistency, there'll be a lot more confident

36:23

with that offense going forward. Now,

36:26

speaking of someone who leads the NFL

36:28

and something else Xavier McKinney leads the

36:30

NFL in interceptions with five years, been

36:32

an absolute revelation. If people didn't really

36:34

know how good he was, they are

36:36

certainly finding out this year. What

36:39

are some of the reasons behind Xavier

36:42

McKinney having this star turn for the

36:44

Green Bay Packers? Well,

36:47

that's interesting. You said star turn there, Ian, because

36:49

he told me after the game that all

36:51

the accolades and maybe all the recognition that

36:54

he hasn't received yet in his career, he

36:56

was looking to get coming into this season.

36:58

When I asked him, did you envision this

37:00

hot of a start to start the year?

37:03

He said, yes, quite frankly. He knew if

37:05

he was going to accomplish all the things

37:07

that he wants to accomplish, he was gonna

37:09

need to get off to a fast start.

37:12

He told me that it's the preparation leading

37:14

into the game that helps him. And then

37:16

his high football IQ, the intelligence there to

37:18

understand how a quarterback is trying to attack

37:21

their defense, what the offense is trying to

37:23

do to the defense as the game unfolds,

37:25

he's able to recognize that and it all

37:27

comes together for him. And he's been able

37:30

to make plays on the ball. Obviously those

37:32

five straight games with the interceptions. And it's

37:34

not just the interceptions in that game, the

37:37

very first possession for the Rams, a big

37:39

third and three, Matthew Stafford, he said, tried

37:41

to look him off, but he hits two,

37:43

two at will. And

37:45

then McKinney breaks a huge hit

37:48

on at will, breaks up the play. The

37:51

Packers get forced to punt and they get the ball,

37:53

but it's those types of plays. He also had the

37:55

big fumble recovery on the first

37:57

possession for the Rams in the second half.

37:59

that set up the go ahead touchdown for

38:01

them. So he's making an impact all over

38:03

the field and certainly with those interceptions as

38:06

well. Four

38:08

years, 67 million seemed like a lot of

38:10

money in March. Kind of a bargain now

38:12

for the Green Bay Packers. Actually just really

38:14

great deal all around. Omar, thank you so

38:16

much. Appreciate you hanging out with us. Looking

38:18

forward to talk to you very soon. Mike,

38:20

take it away. Thanks

38:23

for the toss. I'll eat and I'll catch it just like

38:25

that trade turner throw to home to get the runner out

38:27

at the plate. What? Drake may

38:29

will make his first career start

38:31

for the New England Patriots. Number

38:33

three overall pick officially taking over

38:36

for Jacobi Brissett up there in

38:38

Foxborough as we bring

38:40

in our Bucky Brooks who talked

38:42

a plenty about Drake May and

38:44

all these rookie quarterbacks ahead of

38:46

this year's draft. So Buck, give

38:49

it everything you knew about May, given what you saw in

38:51

the preseason and in a little bit of spot duty here.

38:53

I thought he was impressive in the preseason and against the

38:55

Jets. What are your thoughts on Drake May taking over for

38:57

the Pats here? Yeah,

39:00

this is a bit controversial because the Patriots

39:02

had talked about red shirt and Drake May,

39:05

maybe not allowing him to play this year,

39:07

waiting to next year or later in the

39:09

season. But look, man, he's talented. He's more

39:11

talented Jacobi Brissett. And so the Patriots want

39:14

to get the developmental process started now. The

39:16

thing that you have to know about Drake

39:18

May, despite the talent, despite the athleticism, but

39:20

despite all the positive physical things that he's

39:23

going to bring to the table, he only

39:25

had 26 starts in North Carolina. So it

39:27

may be a bit of a bumpy ride

39:30

early. You hope that he's able to maintain

39:32

his confidence as the Patriots build a game

39:34

plan around his talent. Their game plan should

39:36

include heavy run game, RPOs, quick

39:39

rhythm throws, and some occasional shots because that's

39:41

what he did really well at North Carolina.

39:43

But with a gun slingers mentality who's prone

39:45

to play hero ball, he could make some

39:48

mistakes that lead to turnovers. The thing the

39:50

Patriots have to do is hang in there

39:52

through the rough patches and then find a

39:54

way to build around him because he'll be

39:56

much better in 2025 for the... that

40:00

he gets in 2024. Yep.

40:02

Looking forward to seeing Drake may out there. If

40:05

he's as smooth as he was through the pre-draft prospect,

40:08

I think he'll do just fine except

40:10

for the fact or despite the

40:12

fact that this roster around him is

40:14

not the greatest. Meanwhile I

40:17

know we focused so much on all the

40:19

quarterbacks that went in the first dozen, but

40:21

some were taken after that, including Spencer Rattler,

40:23

the fifth round pick along

40:25

with may, he will be the fifth quarterback

40:27

or rookie quarterback to get the ball this

40:29

year. So Rattler was an

40:32

interesting prospect Bucky. What are your thoughts on

40:34

him now taking over for the injured Derek

40:36

Carr who might miss multiple games here? Yeah,

40:39

now this is one to watch and the

40:42

excitement over Drake may is different because he

40:44

comes with a lot of expectations. Spencer Rattler

40:46

is the one that could surprise. And the

40:48

reason why he could surprise is you have

40:50

to remember going all the way back through

40:52

the recruiting process through the scouting process at

40:55

one point, many regarded him as a guy

40:57

that was going to be a first round

40:59

pick when he was at Oklahoma. Didn't work

41:01

out that way. Went on to South Carolina

41:03

because he lost his job to Kayla Williams.

41:05

But what he developed is a little grit,

41:08

a little toughness, a little resilience. Senior Bowl

41:10

MVP had an opportunity to see him show

41:12

out throughout the preseason where he displayed a

41:14

very mature and evolved game. Give and think

41:16

could be as experienced with Kyle Shanahan and

41:18

what the Niners did with Brock Purdy. I'm

41:21

not saying that Rattler will be a Brock

41:23

Purdy like player, but I'm saying that experience

41:25

could allow him to play much better than

41:27

many imagined and it could allow the Saints

41:29

to keep on rolling while Spencer Rattler is

41:32

in place of Derek Carr. His

41:34

first assignment, a Todd Bowles coach

41:37

defense. So interested to see how

41:39

Spencer Rattler does against

41:41

the Buccaneers. Bucky Brooks, thank you

41:43

very much for your insight regarding

41:46

these rookie quarterbacks. Coming up

41:48

next, we've got some fantasy football decisions to

41:50

make Michael F. Florio coming

41:52

in to join us. Great

41:54

timing right after that Lindor grand slam

41:57

and other Mets fan. Awesome. Can't

wait for this. this. Banking

42:40

mornings can be hard to handle from the

42:46

But you know what helps? Yep.

42:49

A shower. But not

As soon as you reach for the Irish

44:19

Nice. I installed these, and they got some

45:29

Good job. Thanks. Welcome

45:38

back to the insiders. We are on

45:41

the eve of week six in the

45:43

NFL kicks off tomorrow night in Seattle

45:45

with the Seahawks against the 49ers. And

45:47

as we so often do, we need

45:49

advice on our fantasy lineups. Nobody better

45:52

than that, than that guy right there,

45:54

Michael F. Florio joining me, Tom Pelocero,

45:56

Ian Rappaport and Mike Garofolo. All right,

45:58

Florio, it is start. and sit

46:00

time. Let's start out with a running

46:02

back you would start in week six.

46:05

I would start Tony Pollard this

46:07

week. He has been getting a

46:10

lot of opportunity and turning it

46:12

into really good fantasy production. He

46:14

has averaged 65% of the snaps

46:16

this season and is averaging 19

46:18

opportunities per game. That has led

46:20

to him scoring 15 or

46:22

more fantasy points in three or four weeks. Plus

46:24

Colts are top five in rushing and receiving

46:27

yards allowed to running backs. So not only

46:29

is he a good start most weeks, this

46:31

could be a week he hits a home

46:33

run or maybe even a grand slam if

46:35

you would. Now

46:39

you're speaking my language. This is what I

46:41

like. For you, I wanna

46:43

get to some, sorry Mike, let's go back.

46:45

I wanna get to some receivers. Well, actually

46:47

what I really wanna ask you is I'm

46:49

in a two quarterback league. I could start

46:51

either Aiden O'Connell, Spencer Roweller or Deshaun Watson,

46:53

but no, give me some receivers to start

46:55

here. Sorry, Tom, give me some receivers to

46:57

start for you. We'll

47:00

talk off air about who you should start

47:02

at quarterback, but I think DJ Moore is

47:04

a must start option this week in London.

47:06

Not only is he coming off his best

47:08

game of the year, but so is Caleb

47:10

Williams where he looks comfortable. And that led

47:12

to DJ Moore giving you nearly 28 fantasy

47:14

points and he

47:17

could have an even better game potentially

47:19

this week because the Jags have allowed

47:21

the most fantasy points per games to

47:23

wide receivers. And they particularly struggle against

47:26

wide receivers out wide and down the

47:28

field, two areas where we know Moore

47:30

eats. And then Jaden Reed, he is

47:33

shown to have such a high ceiling

47:35

and floor with Jordan Love, averaging 25

47:37

fantasy points per game in three games

47:39

with him. And the Cardinals are top

47:41

10 in yards allowed to wide receivers.

47:43

But I love all the Packers this

47:45

week. I have a Packer in every

47:47

position in stardom sit-in. So go over

47:50

to nfl.com and see that. All

47:52

right, I don't have a time machine to go back

47:55

in time and sit Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez. So

47:57

give me a time machine going forward into the future

47:59

and who are we? sitting this,

48:01

this weekend. I think

48:03

you should try to sit Gino Smith.

48:05

If you have the capabilities to, he

48:08

is just one passing touchdown in each

48:10

game, this season and in three

48:12

career matchups as a Seahawk against the

48:14

49ers, he is just one total passing

48:16

touchdown and two interceptions in two of

48:18

those three games. He was held to

48:20

under 200 passing yards. His

48:23

high mark is just two 38 and

48:25

only one quarterback has top 225 yards

48:28

against the Niners this season. I think

48:30

you sit Rashad white as well over

48:33

the last four weeks, he has 30

48:35

less rushing yards than teammate Bucky Irving.

48:37

Irving also has the only Russian touchdown

48:40

in that span amongst the running backs.

48:42

And what's even more worrisome is his

48:44

targets continue to decline. And in this

48:46

four week span, he is averaging just

48:49

eight fantasy points per game and has

48:51

not reached 11 in a single one.

48:53

And then Mark Andrews last

48:55

week was a step in the right direction

48:57

for him, but he still ran just 16

48:59

routes in a game where Lamar through 42

49:02

times. And he played only just

49:04

over half of the snaps. Plus

49:07

the commanders have allowed the fifth fewest fantasy points

49:09

per game to tight ends. And they have not

49:11

allowed a top 10 tight end this season. Plus

49:13

the Ravens use three of them. So until we

49:15

see better usage for Mark Andrews, I think you

49:17

could get away from him right now. A

49:20

lot more from Florio at nfl.com/start.

49:22

Sit. Do not set your lineups

49:24

without reading that story. Michael F

49:26

thank you very much for being

49:29

here. As always, DJ Moore is

49:31

a must start in fantasy this

49:33

week. I'm thinking a wild guest

49:35

Kayla Williams is as well against

49:37

a rather putrid Jaguars defense coming

49:39

up after this say, ah, I've

49:41

got not to Bucky Brooks. He'll be making

49:43

the trip to London. He'll break down what

49:45

we're seeing from pick number one after this

49:47

on the inside. Just

50:00

ask the Capital One Bank Guy. It's

50:02

pretty much all he talks about. In

50:05

a good way. He'd also tell you

50:07

50:20

you a morning person? Or when

you roll out of bed, do you literally roll out

50:27

mornings can be hard to handle. From the

50:29

moment you open your eyes, your responsibilities and

50:31

to-dos start piling up in your head. But

50:34

you know what helps? Yup,

50:36

a shower. But not

50:38

just any shower, a shower with Irish

50:40

Spring. Yeah,

50:42

as soon as you reach for the Irish

50:44

Spring, your day immediately gets better. All

50:47

those to-dos are totally doable. Because

50:50

that crisp, fresh, unmistakable Irish Spring

50:53

scent zings your brain and awakens

50:55

your senses. So

50:58

when you finally emerge from that glorious shower,

51:01

37 minutes later, because let's be honest, you pay the

51:03

water bill so you can stay in there as long

51:06

as you want. You're ready to

51:08

take on the day. And smell great doing it.

they'll be on Auto Trader. Just you

53:36

throw, perfect catch. Back

53:40

of the end zone, clawing for the touchdown. Nice

53:50

little hype video there. Live from London,

53:52

Trevor Lawrence and the

53:54

Jags take on Caleb Williams and the

53:56

Bears on NFL Network. Rise, shine, and

54:02

Network and NFL Plus subscription required for

54:05

NFL Plus. And before he got on

54:07

the plane, Caleb sat down with our

54:09

own Kyle Brand. I

54:13

have some terms and some phrases that the Bears

54:15

fans have used to describe you and what you

54:17

mean to the future of the franchise. This is

54:20

my favorite one. You ready? Messiah,

54:23

Messiah. I

54:26

think when I when I hear that, I think of

54:28

Dune, you know, even that movie, I couldn't have done

54:30

it all by myself. So it goes to having the

54:32

team and, you know, the guys behind you and then

54:35

believe in you and believe in an offense, believe in

54:37

each other and having that bond to be able to

54:39

go out there and win. So it's kind of funny.

54:46

All right. And now Bucky is back before he

54:48

gets on the plane to London. Bucky,

54:51

you just heard from Caleb Williams there

54:53

briefly. How does he build on what

54:55

was really his finest performance last Sunday?

54:59

Yeah, yeah. The outstanding performance last Sunday. You

55:01

think about having a 300 yard game, his second 300 yard game of the season,

55:04

but it was different than the first one that he had against

55:06

the Indianapolis Colts against the Colts. He threw 52 times too many

55:08

pass attempts for a young quarterback,

55:11

still trying to make his way into the league.

55:14

What the Bears and Williams have discovered

55:16

less is more for the number one

55:18

overall pick. The last

55:21

two games he's had fewer than 30 pass attempts. He's

55:24

been more efficient, more effective. Three touchdowns,

55:26

no international interceptions, and the Bears are

55:28

leaning on all parts of their office,

55:31

which makes the game easy for the

55:33

quarterback. If Caleb Williams continues to

55:35

play on time, on schedule, the Bears have

55:37

an opportunity to see their number one quarterback,

55:39

their number one overall pick continue to grow

55:42

into the franchise quarterback that they expect, but

55:44

it's slowly but surely when it comes to

55:46

their approach, less is more. That is the

55:49

most effective way to utilize Caleb Williams right

55:51

now. Well,

55:54

Trevor Lawrence was also effective last week.

55:56

They finally got their first win of

55:58

the season in Jacksonville. So how

56:01

do they build on that? How do they make it two in a

56:03

row, Bucky? Well,

56:05

I think the Colts were the perfect team

56:07

for Trevor Lawrence to get back on track

56:09

just because of the way that Gus Bradley

56:11

plays zone defense umbrella coverage, dares a quarterback

56:13

to take the check down after check down,

56:15

have to check down. And what

56:17

Trevor Lawrence discovered is by making some

56:19

layups early, check down short throws, then

56:21

moving to intermediate. It made it easier

56:23

for him to hit on those deep

56:25

balls that he missed earlier in the

56:27

season. If he continues to take

56:29

the discipline and the patience that he's played

56:32

against the Colts, the big things that we

56:34

saw in that game against the Colts will

56:36

show up again. He has to learn, look,

56:38

quarterbacking is about taking what the defense gives

56:40

him. If he keeps it simple in his

56:42

mind while maintaining the discipline, he can continue

56:44

to build upon this performance with other performances

56:47

that are very similar to what we saw

56:49

last Sunday. I

56:52

love early morning football, Bucky.

56:54

Have a great trip to London, safe

O and two start creeping up into the

1:01:09
