Dreamboy is a beautiful production that deserved the second season it didn't get. I have to compare it Bubble Gum Crisis. They had a clear goal going into it, but being cut short really caused the show to suffer, which is why I rated it so low (unfortunately). So first things first: the story did not wrap up as neatly as it should have. The show was planned beyond the first season, but because of production problems, it ended prematurely. A few loose ends are left hanging around, and we'll, unfortunately, never get answers.Let's bury that by bringing up where this show really shines. The music is incredible. If I understand correctly, Dane (the actor) is a musician and provided the music. He's great! It isn't a surprise that demand for a soundtrack popped up, and he delivered. The sound effects were also amazing. I felt immersed in a way that a lot of shows simply fall short. The acting is good, but not the greatest. The choice for Luke's actor drove me nuts. As a part of the queer community, I try to respect everyone's choices... but to intentionally make yourself "sound gay" just reinforces stereotypes and does more harm than good. I know a lot of folks will take issue with that statement, but I grew up in an area rampant with homophobia. The "gay accent" only serves to foster an "us vs. them" mentality in the mind of a homophobe.Overall, this is a good show, but not top-notch.
